49 U.S. AI Startups Raise Over $100 Million in 2024
Venture investors continue to pour massive capital into artificial intelligence, with 49 U.S. startups raising nine-figure rounds this year. These deals account for a massive portion of overall venture funding, led by multi-billion-dollar raises from xAI and OpenAI.
Venture investors show no signs of AI fatigue as massive funding rounds dominate the market in 2024. AI companies raise 28% of all venture capital, pulling in $19 billion alone during the third quarter. This incredible momentum continues into the fourth quarter, highlighted by Elon Musk's xAI securing a staggering $6 billion round in November.
The year features seven separate AI funding rounds that exceed $1 billion, alongside dozens of other nine-figure deals. Notable recent mega-rounds include Liquid AI raising a $250 million Series A, AI hardware company Tenstorrent landing $693 million at a $2.7 billion valuation, and physical AI startup Physical Intelligence nabbing a massive Series A. Other major winners include Writer, which raises $200 million, and Enfabrica, which brings in $115 million for AI networking chips.
This flood of capital spans across various AI subsectors, from foundational software and large language models to specialized hardware and robotics. With 49 U.S.-based AI startups reaching the $100 million milestone this year, the technology sector remains heavily focused on backing artificial intelligence. The sheer volume of these outsized rounds proves that venture firms still view AI as the most critical growth area in the current tech landscape.
