Adobe Partners With Leica and Nikon to Embed Content Authenticity Directly Into Cameras
Adobe teams up with Leica and Nikon to bring provenance technology to the point of image capture for the first time. The integration supports the C2PA standard to combat digital misinformation and protect creator attribution.
Adobe announces a major milestone for the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) at MAX 2022 by partnering with Leica and Nikon to embed provenance technology directly into their cameras. The Leica M11 Rangefinder and Nikon Z 9 mark the first time the full C2PA technical standard is realized at the point of capture, giving creators the tools to securely attach cryptographic data to their photos.
This secure-capture technology allows photojournalists and other creatives to automatically attach verifiable details about authorship, location, and capture methods directly to digital images. By establishing this foundation at the source, Adobe aims to increase trust and transparency online while combatting the rapid spread of digital misinformation.
These hardware partnerships represent a significant step forward for the CAI's mission, moving provenance from a software-only concept to an integrated part of the content production lifecycle. With free open-source CAI tools powering this adoption, a growing global community of news outlets, artists, and everyday consumers embraces these new standards for digital authenticity.
