AfterShokz Introduces Bone Conduction Audio Sunglasses at CES

AfterShokz reveals OptiShokz, a new sub-brand that brings bone conduction audio technology to active sunglasses. The first product, called Revvez, launches via Indiegogo in mid-February.

AfterShokz expands its bone conduction technology beyond headphones by launching a new sub-brand called OptiShokz at CES. This new division focuses on active sunglasses, with its debut product being the Revvez. The company plans to launch these audio-enabled sunglasses through an Indiegogo campaign in mid-February.

The Revvez sunglasses feature IP55 water resistance and deliver around six hours of audio playback on a single charge. Buyers have multiple lens options to choose from, including Polarized Grey, REVO Blue, Gradient Grey, Transparent, and Bright Yellow. While early versions of the company's bone conduction technology felt underwhelming, the audio quality shows noticeable improvement in this latest iteration.

This form factor offers a distinct safety advantage by leaving the user's ears completely unobstructed during outdoor activities like mountain biking. AfterShokz points to a six-year study showing 116 US fatalities or serious injuries caused by a lack of environmental awareness from traditional headphones. However, integrating this audio technology into sunglasses ultimately makes the product less versatile than a standard pair of bone conduction headphones.
