AI Coding Startup Cursor Reaches $29.3 Billion Valuation in New Funding Round
Cursor secures $2.3 billion in new funding, pushing its valuation to nearly $29.3 billion as its AI coding tool surpasses $1 billion in annualized revenue. The startup plans to use the capital to expand research and grow its workforce rather than pursue an immediate public offering.
Cursor closes a massive $2.3 billion funding round that pushes its post-money valuation to $29.3 billion, nearly tripling its worth since June. Major investors including Accel, Thrive Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Nvidia, and Google back the popular AI coding assistant. The startup joins a rare group of AI companies, alongside OpenAI and Anthropic, that boast valuations above $10 billion.
The company reports over $1 billion in annualized revenue and a workforce of more than 300 employees since launching its tool in 2023. Cursor builds in-house models that generate more code than almost any other large language models globally. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang even calls Cursor his favorite enterprise AI service.
Despite its explosive growth, CEO Michael Truell says the company focuses on building out its team rather than pursuing an IPO anytime soon. Cursor faces increasing competition in the lucrative AI coding market from rivals like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cognition. OpenAI previously tried to acquire Cursor earlier this year, but the deal does not materialize.
