AI Coding Startup Cursor Reaches $29.3B Valuation in Massive Funding Round

Cursor secures $2.3 billion in Series D funding, pushing its valuation past $29 billion as AI coding automation continues to attract massive venture capital. The sector sees heavy investment and acquisition activity, with startups like Cognition and Replit also scoring big rounds.

AI coding platform Cursor raises $2.3 billion in a Series D funding round that pushes its post-money valuation to $29.3 billion. This massive valuation represents a more than threefold increase from just six months ago and highlights the rapid growth of its parent company, Anysphere. Founded in San Francisco in 2022, Cursor now employs over 300 people and generates more than $1 billion in annualized revenue.

Cursor is not the only company drawing massive investor interest in the coding automation space. Rival AI coding startup Cognition secures $400 million at a $10.2 billion valuation for its Devin platform, while Replit lands $250 million in Series C funding. Swedish startup Lovable also pulls in $200 million to support its AI-enabled app and website development tools, proving that venture capitalists are eagerly backing this sector.

Major tech players are also actively acquiring these promising coding automation startups. OpenAI reportedly attempts to buy Cursor last year, while Anysphere acquires fellow startups Koala and Supermaven. Additionally, Cognition agrees to acquire Windsurf shortly after Google hires away Windsurf's top leadership in a $2.4 billion deal. Although no companies in this young sector have gone public yet, the rapid financial growth suggests an initial public offering is likely on the horizon.
