The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict sparks a massive wave of online misinformation, and artificial intelligence tools make it harder than ever to separate fact from fiction. Social media platforms are currently flooded with AI-generated images and videos that range from obvious propaganda to highly convincing fabrications designed to deceive the public about the realities on the ground.
Experts warn that this unregulated technology significantly lowers the barrier for creating credible but entirely fake content. Nathaniel Sharadin, a fellow at the Center for AI Safety, notes that people encounter much higher volumes of high-quality image, audio, and video fakes, calling the widespread use of these tools a dangerous experiment on society.
One prominent example of this phenomenon is a deepfake video of President Joe Biden falsely announcing the revival of the military draft for women. This fabricated clip, originally created months earlier, circulates widely amid the current crisis and illustrates exactly how AI-generated media manipulates public perception during sensitive geopolitical events.
