AI startup Hugging Face raises $235 million in a Series D funding round, achieving a $4.5 billion valuation. Major tech companies including Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, IBM, Salesforce, and Sound Ventures participate in the investment. This new valuation doubles the company's worth from May 2022 and sits at over 100 times its annualized revenue, highlighting the massive market appetite for AI development platforms.

The company provides a GitHub-like hub for AI models, datasets, and code repositories, along with various data science hosting and development tools. Its paid enterprise features include AutoTrain for automating model training, an Inference API for hosting models without managing infrastructure, and Infinity for speeding up in-production data processing. Co-founder and CEO Clément Delangue states that AI represents the most important paradigm shift of the decade and emphasizes Hugging Face's goal to be the open platform empowering this transition.

Originally launched in 2016 as a teenage chatbot app, Hugging Face pivots to machine learning after open sourcing its underlying algorithm. The Brooklyn-based company currently claims 10,000 paying customers and hosts over 1 million repositories on its platform. This growth aligns with broader enterprise trends, as surveys show 43% of business leaders plan to increase their investments in AI and automation tools throughout 2023.
