AI Startup Recursive Superintelligence Inks $410M Compute Deal With AWS
AI startup Recursive Superintelligence announces a $410 million multiyear compute deal with Amazon Web Services. The company, which emerged from stealth in May with $650 million in funding, focuses on building open-ended self-improving AI systems. Founder and CEO Richard Socher calls the agreement the first of many such deals the company expects to sign in the coming years.
Recursive's approach to self-improving AI means the company funnels the bulk of its budget into compute rather than headcount. "For us, it's less about headcount and more about agent count," Socher explains. As part of the agreement, AWS plans to co-develop purpose-built infrastructure tailored for foundation-level AI companies, which could attract similar firms to the platform in the future.
Recursive self-improvement remains both a promise and a debate within the AI community, with some experts anticipating an imminent breakthrough while others see it as a gradual continuum. Recursive aims to turn the concept into real products, and Socher says the first tangible offerings arrive as soon as October, giving users hands-on access to the company's self-improving technology.
