The AI style transfer technology that popularized painterly selfies through the Prisma app now finds a new home in physical children's books. A partnership between Prisma Labs and children's publisher Kabook allows parents to seamlessly insert their child's AI-generated likeness into printed stories, casting the child as a character in the tale.
This collaboration marks the first consumer product partnership for Prisma Labs since the company pivoted to a B2B model in late 2017. Rather than using neural networks for dystopian purposes, the technology serves up contextual illustrations that blend a child's photo with the book's artistic style to create a cohesive reading experience.
Kabook, a technology-based publisher focused on children aged zero to seven, currently offers four customizable stories. Three of the books incorporate a single custom image into the narrative, while a fourth title called Hornswoggled! features seven personalized photos throughout the pages to create a deeply immersive adventure.
