AI21 Labs launches AI21 Studio, a new developer platform in open beta that provides immediate access to its state-of-the-art Jurassic-1 language models. The flagship Jurassic-1 Jumbo model contains 178 billion parameters, making it the largest and most sophisticated language model currently available for general developer use. Anyone can sign up to start querying the models through an interactive web environment or a dedicated API.
The Jurassic-1 models utilize a unique 250,000-token vocabulary that includes multi-word expressions, phrases, and named entities. This massive vocabulary is at least five times larger than most existing models and allows the system to represent text using fewer tokens, which significantly improves computational efficiency and reduces latency. The models handle a wide variety of complex tasks, including human-like text generation, question answering, and text classification.
To help developers scale their projects for production, AI21 Studio includes tools for training custom versions of the Jurassic-1 models. Developers only need between 50 and 100 training examples to create a personalized model that is hosted on the platform for their exclusive use. AI21 Labs designs this platform to democratize access to advanced artificial intelligence so that anyone can build powerful text-based applications regardless of their prior experience.
