Alphabet Reports $74.6B Q2 Revenue, Announces CFO Leadership Shift

Alphabet achieves strong Q2 2023 financial results with $74.6 billion in revenue driven by AI momentum and growth in Search, YouTube, and Cloud. Longtime CFO Ruth Porat prepares to transition to a new role as President and Chief Investment Officer.

Alphabet announces $74.6 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2023, representing a 7% increase from the same period last year. The tech giant reports $18.37 billion in net income and highlights strong momentum across its core products. CEO Sundar Pichai attributes this growth to the company's continued leadership in artificial intelligence and engineering excellence, noting that six of its products currently serve over two billion users each.

Specific business segments show significant acceleration during this quarter. YouTube ad revenue reaches $7.67 billion, while Google Cloud surges to $8.03 billion compared to $6.28 billion a year ago. Additionally, "Google other revenues," which encompass hardware, the Play Store, and non-advertising YouTube income, climbs to $8.14 billion. Meanwhile, the company's "Other Bets" division generates $285 million in revenue but continues to operate at a loss.

In a major leadership change, current CFO Ruth Porat prepares to step down from her financial role to become the President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google starting September 1. In this newly created position, Porat oversees Alphabet's Other Bets portfolio, global investments, and engagements with policymakers. She continues to serve as CFO until the company successfully finds a permanent successor.
