Amazon confirms that Mechanical Turk will close to new customers on July 30, 2026, marking the beginning of the end for the pioneering crowdsourcing service. Ironically, a 2023 study finds that up to 46% of Mechanical Turk workers are themselves using AI language models to complete assignments, calling into question the quality and reliability of the data the service produces.
