Amazon Expands Fire TV Lineup With New Cube, Soundbar, and OLED Smart TVs
Amazon introduces over 20 new Fire TV devices at IFA 2019, including a faster second-generation Fire TV Cube and its first Fire TV Edition soundbar. The expansion comes as Amazon surpasses Roku with 37 million monthly active users globally.
Amazon unveils more than 20 new Fire TV-branded devices at IFA 2019, significantly expanding its hardware lineup to compete in the connected-TV market. The announcement includes a next-generation Fire TV Cube, an Anker-made Fire TV Edition soundbar, and 15 new Fire TV Edition smart TVs that feature the first OLED models in the series. This massive hardware push arrives as Amazon claims the top spot internationally over Roku, boasting 37 million monthly active users globally compared to Roku's 30.5 million.
The second-generation Fire TV Cube serves as a major upgrade over the original device, featuring a powerful hexa-core processor that delivers twice the performance. It provides instant access to 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Vision content at up to 60 frames per second. Additionally, the new Cube introduces on-device processing with Local Voice Control, allowing common commands to execute up to four times faster without relying on the cloud.
Amazon also equips the new streaming device with far-field voice recognition through an array of eight microphones designed to filter out background noise, TV audio, and competing speech. This advanced audio technology ensures Alexa hears user commands clearly even in a crowded room with the television playing at high volumes. The device further utilizes multi-directional infrared technology to control compatible televisions, soundbars, cable boxes, and various smart home devices directly.
