Amazon Launches Bedrock to Compete in Generative AI Market
AWS unveils Amazon Bedrock, a new service that lets customers build AI applications using pretrained models from Anthropic, Stability AI, and Amazon's own Titan models.
Amazon enters the generative AI race with the launch of Amazon Bedrock, a new service that allows AWS customers to build AI-powered applications using pretrained models from third-party startups. Instead of developing all the AI technology in-house, Amazon recruits partners like AI21 Labs, Anthropic, and Stability AI to host their models directly on the AWS cloud platform.
Through a single API, developers access a variety of large language models, including Amazon's own Titan foundation models. This approach targets large enterprise customers looking to build robust AI applications at scale, setting Bedrock apart from smaller model hosting services and positioning it as a direct competitor to similar offerings from Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
While specific pricing and licensing terms remain undisclosed, Amazon clearly views generative AI as a massive market opportunity. The release of Bedrock follows recent strategic moves by AWS, such as partnering with Hugging Face, becoming the preferred cloud provider for Stability AI, and collaborating with Nvidia to build advanced infrastructure for AI training.
