Amazon Partners With BookMyShow to Launch Movie Ticketing in India

Amazon India introduces online movie ticket booking through a new exclusive partnership with market leader BookMyShow. The collaboration supports Amazon's strategy to transform Amazon Pay into a comprehensive super app.

Amazon expands its services in India by partnering with BookMyShow to offer online movie ticket bookings directly on its shopping site and app. Users access this new feature through the "shop by category" section or the Amazon Pay tab, marking another step in Amazon's push to turn its payments service into a super app. This launch follows the e-commerce giant's earlier introduction of flight ticketing in the country.

BookMyShow serves as the exclusive ticketing partner for this five-year deal, giving it access to millions of Amazon customers across the nation. To attract users, Amazon offers cashback incentives, including a 2% reward for credit card users and limited-time discounts of up to Rs 200 per ticket. While the companies keep the financial details private, industry norms suggest BookMyShow pays a promotional fee to Amazon for this customer reach.

This strategic alliance helps BookMyShow compete against well-backed rivals like Paytm, which recently captured market share by offering its own cashback deals. With India's media and entertainment market valued at $23.9 billion and over half of multiplex tickets now sold online, the partnership leverages Amazon's deep penetration into tier 2 and tier 3 cities to drive further digital ticket sales.
