Amazon Partners With Covariant to Expand AI Robot Capabilities
Amazon licenses Covariant's robotic foundation models to enhance how its massive fleet of warehouse robots sees, reasons, and acts. The partnership aims to improve safety and efficiency for employees while accelerating supply chain automation.
Amazon expands its warehouse automation capabilities through a new commercial agreement with Covariant, a Bay Area company that builds advanced AI models for robots. Under this deal, Amazon receives a non-exclusive license to Covariant’s robotic foundation models, which help robots see, reason, and act on the world around them during complex warehouse tasks.
The online retail giant currently operates a massive fleet of 750,000 robots that handle heavy lifting and repetitive tasks across its facilities. Systems like Robin, Proteus, and Sequoia already use artificial intelligence to move inventory, sort goods, and identify customer orders, making operations safer and more efficient for human employees.
This new partnership allows Amazon to generalize how its robotic systems learn and adapt to dynamic opportunities at scale. By combining Covariant's deep understanding of end-to-end warehouse processes with Amazon's decades of machine learning experience, the companies aim to accelerate innovation that benefits both Amazon customers and the broader robotics industry.
