Amazon relaxes its strict attendance policy for warehouse and logistics workers as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread. The company informs employees that it does not count any unpaid time off against them during the month of March, ensuring workers face no repercussions for staying home due to illness.
This policy change applies to all employees who work in offices, stores, fulfillment centers, delivery stations, or sort centers. Amazon also states that it does not assign attendance points to workers who are unable to come to work, pausing the infraction tracking system it normally uses to monitor employee attendance.
In addition to the attendance adjustments, Amazon increases the frequency and intensity of cleaning at all of its sites. The company requires employees to sanitize their work stations and vehicles at the start and end of every shift, defers non-essential travel, and shifts job interviews to a video-based format to protect its massive network of over 250,000 fulfillment workers.
