Amazon Senior Vice President Dave Limp reveals that customers purchase over 100 million devices with Alexa built in. The holiday demand is so high that Amazon completely sells out of Echo Dots through January, forcing the company to rush inventory onto 747s from Hong Kong to keep up with orders.
This massive milestone highlights a key difference in the intelligent assistant market because consumers actively choose to buy Alexa devices, unlike smartphones that come with Siri or Google Assistant pre-installed. Amazon currently claims over 150 distinct products featuring Alexa and focuses heavily on growing this hardware ecosystem.
A major platform war is brewing in the smart home space, and Amazon holds a strong lead heading into CES 2019. The tech giant aggressively expands Alexa integrations across the industry, noting that more than 28,000 smart home devices from 4,500 different brands now work seamlessly with its voice assistant.
