Amazon Web Services cuts off cloud hosting for Parler, a social media platform popular with Trump supporters, due to repeated failures to moderate violent content. AWS notifies Parler that its account faces suspension at the end of the weekend, a move that effectively takes the platform completely offline unless it secures a new hosting provider.
The decision follows similar actions by Apple and Google, which remove the Parler app from their respective stores. However, Amazon's move goes a step further by eliminating the web infrastructure that keeps the platform accessible through browsers, leaving users with no way to reach the service.
In its termination notice, AWS points to 98 specific examples of posts that encourage and incite violence against various groups. While Amazon states it respects Parler's right to set its own content policies, the tech giant insists it cannot provide services to a customer that poses a very real risk to public safety.
