Amazon's autonomous mobility company Zoox reveals a fully functional, electric, autonomous vehicle designed specifically for dense urban environments. As the first in the industry to showcase a driving, purpose-built robotaxi capable of reaching speeds up to 75 miles per hour, Zoox combines artificial intelligence, robotics, and sustainable energy to transform personal transportation into a safer and cleaner experience.
The vehicle features a unique bidirectional driving capability and four-wheel steering, which allows it to navigate tight spaces and change directions without ever needing to reverse. Measuring just 3.63 meters long, it boasts one of the smallest footprints in the auto industry and holds a massive 133 kWh battery that provides up to 16 continuous hours of operation on a single charge. Inside, passengers sit face-to-face in a symmetrical four-seat configuration that completely eliminates the traditional steering wheel.
Safety remains the foundation of the Zoox design, incorporating over 100 safety innovations not found in conventional cars. The vehicle utilizes a comprehensive sensor architecture of cameras, radar, and LIDAR to achieve a 270-degree field of view on all four corners, effectively eliminating typical blind spots. Additionally, a novel airbag system and enveloping carriage seating provide five-star crash safety protections for all four passengers.
