AMC Theatres Launches A La Carte Streaming Service to Rival Subscriptions
AMC Theatres introduces an on-demand marketplace where Stubs loyalty members buy or rent individual films. The service features over 2,000 titles and leverages user data to personalize movie recommendations.
AMC Theatres launches a new on-demand streaming service called AMC Theatres On Demand, allowing Stubs loyalty program members to buy or rent individual movies at home. This à la carte marketplace goes against the current trend of media companies launching subscription-based platforms, offering over 2,000 films from major studios at launch.
The company relies on its massive database of more than 20 million Stubs households to deliver highly personalized movie recommendations. AMC President and CEO Adam Aron emphasizes that this extensive knowledge of movie-going habits gives the theater chain a unique advantage in promoting specific titles directly to fans.
This move represents a significant effort by the world's largest theatrical chain to diversify its business as box office numbers decline. It follows previous experiments like the Stubs A-List theatrical subscription, and the service is currently accessible via web browsers, mobile apps, and smart TV applications.
