Anthropic Builds Custom AI Chip Design Team to Scale Claude
Anthropic is building a dedicated team to design its own custom AI chips, a move the company confirms will allow it to co-design hardware and models for faster, more efficient performance. The Claude maker has previously secured computing deals with major players including AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD, but apparently sees in-house silicon development as essential to meeting surging demand.
The company is actively recruiting engineers experienced in chip design for what it calls its "custom silicon team." Anthropic joins a growing trend among AI leaders taking chip design into their own hands. OpenAI recently unveiled its Broadcom-built Jalapeño chip for inference workloads, Google relies heavily on its TPU architecture, and Meta continues developing its MTIA accelerators. As demand for AI computing skyrockets, building proprietary hardware is increasingly looking like a competitive necessity rather than a luxury.
