Anthropic Emerges as World's Most Valuable AI Safety Startup

Anthropic is an American artificial intelligence company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops a popular series of large language models known as Claude and maintains a strict focus on AI safety. Former OpenAI members, including siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, establish the company in January 2021 after departing their previous roles.
Dario Amodei serves as the CEO while Daniela Amodei acts as president, leading a growing team of 2,500 employees. The executive roster also includes notable figures like Mike Krieger as Chief Product Officer and prominent board members such as Reed Hastings and Chris Liddell. Additionally, tech giant Alphabet Inc. holds a 14 percent ownership stake in the rapidly expanding business.
Operating as a private benefit corporation, Anthropic achieves incredible financial milestones and reaches an estimated valuation of $965 billion as of May 2026. This massive valuation officially makes it the most valuable pure-play AI company in the world. Beyond its flagship Claude chatbot, the company expands its product lineup to include specialized tools like Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design, and Bun.
