Anthropic Leads This Week's Top Venture Funding Rounds With $580M Raise

Artificial intelligence research firm Anthropic closes a massive $580 million round, leading a diverse week of venture funding that includes major raises for iSpot.tv and Biofourmis.

Artificial intelligence research firm Anthropic secures the largest funding round of the week by raising $580 million in a Series B led by FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. The San Francisco-based company plans to use this capital to expand its team and investigate the safety and reliability of computationally intensive AI systems. This massive injection of cash follows Anthropic's previous $124 million Series A raise completed last May.

Television advertising measurement company iSpot.tv captures the second-largest round by nabbing a $325 million investment from Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The Bellevue, Washington-based company uses this funding to challenge long-dominant industry player Nielsen, reportedly pushing iSpot.tv's valuation past the $1 billion mark. Generating over $100 million in annual recurring revenue since its founding in 2012, the company previously raised only $58 million.

Digital health company Biofourmis brings in the third-largest round by closing a $300 million Series D led by General Atlantic. The Boston-based firm achieves a valuation of more than $1 billion by utilizing artificial intelligence to remotely monitor patient biomarkers like heart rate and temperature. This significant investment highlights the continued momentum in virtual care and digital medicine accelerated by the global pandemic.
