Anthropic partners with the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to build and pilot a dedicated AI assistant for GOV.UK. Powered by Claude, this agentic system goes beyond simple question-answering by actively guiding citizens through government processes with individually-tailored support. The partnership stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2025 and serves as a major step in the UK's AI Opportunities Action Plan.
The initial use case focuses heavily on employment, helping people find work, access training, and understand available support resources. The AI assistant provides personalized career advice, intelligently routes users to the right services based on their circumstances, and maintains context across interactions so users avoid starting from scratch. Additionally, users retain full control over their data, including what information the system remembers and the ability to opt out.
A central goal of the collaboration is building internal AI and AI safety expertise within the UK government. Anthropic engineers work alongside civil servants and software developers at the Government Digital Service to ensure the government can independently maintain the system over time. Anthropic executives emphasize that this deployment demonstrates how frontier AI safely delivers public benefit and sets a new standard for government AI integration.
