Anthropic secures a massive $13 billion funding round led by Iconiq, nearly tripling its valuation to $183 billion. The generative AI startup now ranks as the fourth-most valuable private company globally.
Anthropic announces a massive $13 billion Series F funding round that nearly triples its valuation to $183 billion. Iconiq leads the investment, with Fidelity Management & Research Co. and Lightspeed Venture Partners acting as co-leaders. This new valuation makes the San Francisco-based company the fourth-most valuable private company in the world and the second-most valuable generative AI startup behind OpenAI.
The company experiences explosive growth alongside this new funding, boasting a revenue run rate of over $5 billion as of August. This represents a significant jump from the $1 billion rate seen at the beginning of the year. Much of this financial success stems from the enterprise sector, where Anthropic grows its business customer base to more than 300,000, marking a nearly sevenfold increase over the past year.
This enormous round highlights a broader trend of venture capital heavily concentrating in the artificial intelligence sector. AI startups account for 45% of global venture funding in the second quarter, grabbing around $40 billion of the total investment pool. With this latest round, Anthropic brings its total funding raised since its 2021 inception to $33.7 billion, drawing capital from a wide syndicate of major institutional investors.
