Anthropic closes a massive $13 billion funding round that triples its valuation to $183 billion. The funding round is led by Iconiq, Fidelity Management & Research Co., and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with additional participation from Altimeter, General Catalyst, and Coatue. This substantial financial boost reflects deep investor confidence in the Amazon-backed artificial intelligence startup.

The company experiences unprecedented financial growth, with its run-rate revenue surpassing $5 billion as of August. This marks a dramatic increase from roughly $1 billion at the beginning of the year. Anthropic currently serves more than 300,000 business customers through its popular Claude AI assistant.

Anthropic plans to use the fresh capital to deepen its AI safety research, meet rapidly growing enterprise demand, and support international expansion. The company faces fierce competition from OpenAI, which reportedly prepares for a secondary stock sale that values the rival firm at around $500 billion.
