Anthropic's "Permanent Increase" Actually Cuts Claude Code Limits by 17%
Anthropic says it is permanently raising standard weekly usage limits in Claude Code by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans starting September 14. However, the announcement is less generous than it sounds, because users currently benefit from a temporary 50% increase that remains in place until September 13.
In practical terms, if the original weekly allowance was 100, users currently get 150 under the temporary boost. Once the new permanent limits take effect, that number drops to 125, meaning users receive 25% more than the original baseline but about 17% less than they have right now. Anthropic later deletes its original thread and posts a clarification, openly admitting that the change works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits compared to today.
Anthropic says it is working on additional changes that will make users feel like they are getting more from Claude, with greater visibility and control over usage. The company notes that Claude usage varies based on conversation length, model choice, tool usage, and effort level, so the weekly allowance does not translate into a fixed number of Claude Code prompts.
