Anysphere Reaches $2.5 Billion Valuation as Investors Battle Over Cursor Maker
Top venture capital firms are engaged in an unsolicited bidding war for Anysphere, the creator of the popular AI coding assistant Cursor. The startup's rapid revenue growth drives offers that soar far above its $400 million valuation from just four months ago.
Top venture capital firms like Benchmark, Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and Thrive are engaging in a fierce, unsolicited bidding war over Anysphere, the startup behind the popular AI coding assistant Cursor. These investors offer valuations as high as $2.5 billion, a massive jump from the company's $400 million valuation just four months ago. The bidding starts at $1.5 billion last week and escalates rapidly as firms compete to lead the next funding round.
This intense investor interest stems directly from Cursor's explosive revenue growth and user adoption. The company generates $4 million in annualized recurring revenue in April, but it currently brings in $4 million per month. Such rapid financial momentum makes Anysphere stand out significantly among a crowded field of AI coding assistants that includes competitors like Augment, Codeium, Magic, and Poolside.
Founded in 2022 by MIT students, Anysphere quickly gains prominence as the most successful graduate of OpenAI's accelerator program. The startup previously raises an $8 million seed round led by OpenAI's Startup Fund and a $60 million Series A earlier this year. As AI coding tools become standard for engineers, some venture capitalists anticipate these assistants will soon enable startups to hire fewer software developers, further amplifying the strategic importance of Anysphere's technology.
