Apple and Aetna Launch Attain App to Reward Healthy Habits

Apple and Aetna introduce the Attain app, which rewards users for healthy behaviors like exercising and sleeping well. Participants even have the opportunity to earn a free Apple Watch by meeting personalized fitness goals.

Apple and insurance giant Aetna team up to launch Attain, a new health-tracking app for the iPhone and Apple Watch. The application rewards Aetna members for engaging in healthy behaviors, such as getting regular exercise and sleeping more. Users also receive personalized nudges to take their medication on time or get an annual flu shot.

The program offers participants a chance to earn a free Apple Watch by meeting their customized fitness goals over a 24-month period. Members who do not already own a device receive an Apple Watch Series 3 from Aetna, or they can pay out of pocket to upgrade to a newer model. As users meet their specific targets, they earn back the cost of the device or accumulate points to redeem for corporate gift cards.

This collaboration highlights Apple's ongoing push into the healthcare sector as a major area for future growth. By leveraging Aetna's massive user base following its merger with CVS, Apple finds a prime channel to boost Apple Watch adoption. The companies design the Attain experience to focus on individualized goals rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to wellness.
