Apple Announces Free Virtual WWDC Starting June 22
Apple transforms its annual developer conference into a free online event this June, offering early access to upcoming software updates. The company also opens submissions for its annual Swift Student Challenge.
Apple announces it will host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference as a free virtual event beginning June 22. This marks the first time in the conference's 31-year history that Apple moves the event entirely online, making it accessible to its global community of more than 23 million developers through the Apple Developer app and website.
Attendees of the online event gain early access to the future of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS. Apple engineers lead sessions to help developers build app experiences that enrich the lives of Apple customers around the globe, with executives promising this will be the biggest WWDC yet despite the format change.
Alongside the main conference, Apple opens submissions for the Swift Student Challenge through May 17. Student developers from around the world create interactive scenes in a Swift playground that can be experienced within three minutes, giving young innovators a chance to showcase their coding talents to the broader tech community.
