Apple Ditches Lightning for USB-C Across Entire iPhone 15 Lineup
Apple officially reveals the iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Series 9, and USB-C AirPods at its Wonderlust event. The biggest shift is the permanent transition from Lightning to USB-C ports across all new mobile devices.
Apple unveils its iPhone 15 lineup, bringing the long-expected switch from Lightning to USB-C to every new model. This transition applies to the standard iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max, aligning with European regulations and making cable sharing much easier across Macs, iPads, and the updated AirPods.
The entire iPhone 15 family now features the Dynamic Island, a design element previously reserved for Pro models, along with a refreshed look that boasts rounded edges. Screen sizes remain unchanged at 6.1 inches for the base and Pro models and 6.7 inches for the Plus and Pro Max variants, while the displays offer impressive 2,000-nit peak brightness.
Beyond the smartphones, Apple introduces the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 to complement the new hardware. The company also updates its AirPods with USB-C charging cases and confirms the upcoming release dates for its latest software ecosystems, including iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma.
