Apple Enhances AI Features With Live Translation and Screen Scanning at WWDC

Apple unveils significant upgrades to its Apple Intelligence suite at WWDC 2025, introducing live translation across Messages, FaceTime, and Phone calls. The company also expands Visual Intelligence to scan on-screen content and adds ChatGPT integration to Image Playground.

Apple introduces a suite of upgrades to its Apple Intelligence tools at WWDC 2025, bringing enhanced capabilities to iOS 26 and other operating systems. Image Playground now integrates with ChatGPT to offer new image styles and allows users to create colorful backgrounds for group chats in Messages. Additionally, Genmoji enables users to merge two standard emoji into a completely new character.

The tech giant rolls out live translation features across its core communication apps. In Messages, on-device AI models instantly translate texts into a recipient's preferred language as the user types. FaceTime gains live translated captions during video calls, while the Phone app generates a voiced translation for standard audio calls.

Apple Visual Intelligence also receives a major expansion by gaining the ability to scan and analyze content directly on a user's screen, activated simply by pressing the screenshot buttons. This upgraded tool uses deeper ChatGPT integration to answer questions about on-screen content and can search platforms like Google and Etsy for visual matches. Furthermore, the system automatically suggests calendar reminders when it detects an event on the display.
