Apple introduces a major update to its voice assistant called Shortcuts, which fundamentally changes how users interact with Siri. Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, announces that this new feature bridges the gap between Siri and third-party applications.
Shortcuts allow external apps to connect directly to the Siri platform, enabling users to control their favorite applications using only voice commands. This expansion moves Siri beyond its previous limitations by opening the ecosystem to a wider variety of developer-created tools and services.
Alongside this third-party integration, Apple releases a dedicated Shortcuts app that gives users direct control over the assistant's behavior. Through this app, users program Siri to proactively suggest specific features based on their daily routines and personal preferences.
