Apple Expands AI Suite With ChatGPT, Image Tools in iOS 18.2 Update
Apple rolls out iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 with highly anticipated ChatGPT integration, new image generation tools, and expanded language support for its Apple Intelligence features.
Apple releases a major update to its Apple Intelligence suite with the launch of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, bringing highly anticipated ChatGPT integration to Siri. When users ask a question that Siri cannot answer, the assistant now offers an option to query ChatGPT instead. The update also introduces a new "compose" feature within the writing tools that relies on ChatGPT to generate text from scratch based on user prompts, moving beyond the basic rewriting capabilities of the previous version.
The update brings fun new visual creation tools to Apple devices, including Image Playground and Genmoji. Image Playground allows users to generate images in animation or illustration styles through a dedicated app or directly within Messages, and Apple plans to provide an API for third-party developers. Similarly, Genmoji lets users create custom, AI-generated emojis simply by typing a description or using a photo from their library when the emoji keyboard is open.
Apple expands its AI availability beyond U.S. English by adding support for localized English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. Additionally, iPhone 16 models gain Visual Intelligence, enabling users to point their camera at objects and ask ChatGPT for information by long-pressing the Camera Control button. Users maintain control over their privacy during ChatGPT usage, as the feature requires no login by default and ensures OpenAI does not store requests unless users explicitly sign in to access premium models.
