Apple Expands Intelligence Features Across Devices and Opens On-Device Model to Developers
Apple announces new Apple Intelligence capabilities for iPhone, Mac, and other devices, including Live Translation and developer access to the private on-device foundation model.
Apple unveils new Apple Intelligence features that enhance the user experience across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. The updated system introduces Live Translation to break down language barriers during conversations and messaging, while Visual Intelligence receives upgrades to help users do more with the content on their screens. Additionally, users gain new ways to express themselves through enhanced Image Playground and Genmoji features.
A major milestone in this update is the direct integration of Apple Intelligence into the Shortcuts app, allowing users to automate intelligent tasks easily. Furthermore, Apple takes a significant step by giving developers direct access to the private on-device large language model that powers Apple Intelligence. This access enables third-party app creators to build fast, powerful AI experiences that function entirely offline while maintaining strict user privacy.
The company confirms that these new capabilities are available for developer testing starting today and will officially launch to users this fall. Alongside the new features, Apple reveals plans to expand Apple Intelligence support to eight additional languages by the end of the year, including Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and others. This expansion makes the intelligent tools accessible to a much broader global audience.
