Apple Launches Replacement Program for Crackling AirPods Pro

Apple officially acknowledges a widespread noise cancellation defect in early AirPods Pro units and launches a free replacement program for affected customers.

Apple launches an official "AirPods Pro Service Program" to address widespread complaints about crackling and rattling sounds in its premium wireless earbuds. The issue reportedly gets worse during physical movement, loud environments, or phone calls, and points directly to a defect in the active noise cancellation system. Many affected users experience a loss of bass sound or an unexpected increase in background noise like street or airplane sounds.

The tech giant previously handled these complaints on a case-by-case basis through customer support, but the problem proves common enough to require a dedicated service initiative. Some users even report that their replacement earbuds eventually develop the exact same audio issues. Apple now streamlines the resolution process by promising full unit replacements rather than attempting physical repairs.

Apple states that only AirPods Pro units manufactured before October 2020 experience this hardware defect, which indicates that the company already resolves the issue on its current production lines. Affected customers can now bring their faulty earbuds to an Apple Store or authorized service provider for a quick swap to a functioning set.
