Apple Leverages On-Device AI Models and Xcode Updates to Empower Developers

Apple shifts its AI strategy at WWDC25 by giving developers direct access to its new on-device foundation models and an upgraded Xcode coding assistant.

Apple takes a practical approach to artificial intelligence at WWDC25 by focusing on on-device capabilities rather than flashy hype. The company introduces a new generation of large language models designed specifically to power Apple Intelligence features across its platforms. These models are faster, more efficient, and support 15 languages while remaining optimized for Apple silicon and Private Cloud Compute.

A major highlight for developers is the new Foundation Models framework, which grants direct access to Apple's on-device language models. This allows developers to experiment with and fine-tune these models, including a 3-billion parameter version, to create custom intelligent features. Additionally, the beta release of Xcode 26 lets developers connect their preferred LLMs directly into their coding environment to generate code, fix bugs, and create documentation.

Beyond artificial intelligence, Apple unveils a major visual overhaul called Liquid Glass for its entire software ecosystem. This new design material dynamically reflects and refracts surroundings to help users focus on their actual content. The company also previews macOS Tahoe 26, setting the stage for future software experiences built on this fresh visual foundation.
