Apple M1 Chip Brings Massive Speed and ML Gains to New Macs

Apple introduces the M1 chip, marking the first time the company builds its own processor for Mac computers since 2006. This highly anticipated transition away from Intel processors promises to reshape the performance capabilities of the entire Mac lineup.

The new 5-nanometer chip features an 8-core CPU, an integrated 8-core GPU, and a specialized Neural Engine, all packed with over 16 billion transistors. These components work together to deliver CPU speeds up to 3.5 times faster and GPU speeds up to five times faster than previous Mac models.

A standout feature of the M1 architecture is its 16-core Neural Engine, which accelerates machine learning tasks by up to 15 times.
