Apple Music Slashes Subscription Prices to Compete in India

Apple Music significantly reduces its monthly subscription fees in India to gain an edge over rivals like Spotify and local services. The price drop affects individual, student, and family plans as major tech companies battle for dominance in the crucial market.

Apple Music reduces its subscription prices in India to attract more users in a highly competitive streaming market. The individual plan now costs 99 rupees per month, down from 120 rupees, while the student plan drops to 49 rupees and the family plan falls to 149 rupees. Both new and existing customers take advantage of these lower rates.

This strategic price cut follows Apple's recent milestone of overtaking Spotify in U.S. paid subscribers and aims to replicate that success in India. The Indian market is currently experiencing intense competition, with recent arrivals like YouTube Music and Spotify joining established players like Amazon and Google. Local services such as JioSaavn and Gaana also fiercely defend their market share by offering heavily discounted annual plans.

To cater specifically to Indian listeners, Apple Music features localized playlists that include regional language music in Malayalam and Tamil. The service also offers 14 local radio stations and maintains licensing deals with top Indian labels like Saregama, T-Series, and Zee Music. While Apple keeps its exact Indian subscriber count private, it relies on these tailored features and aggressive pricing to compete globally with its 56 million total subscribers.
