Apple Opens Vision Pro Developer Kit Applications Ahead of 2024 Launch
Apple allows registered developers to apply for a Vision Pro Developer Kit to test their spatial apps on real hardware before the headset hits stores.
Apple officially opens applications for the Apple Vision Pro Developer Kit, giving eligible developers a chance to test their apps on actual hardware before the headset launches in 2024. While the company releases the visionOS SDK in June to allow for Mac-based testing, this new program provides direct access to the physical device.
To qualify for the kit, developers must hold an active membership in the Apple Developer Program and provide specific details about the app they plan to build or adapt for visionOS. Apple reviews each application individually and grants access on a highly limited basis to ensure serious projects receive the hardware.
The Developer Kit operates as a loaner program that requires recipients to keep the headset in a secure, private workspace and return it upon request. Participants also receive onboarding assistance, code-level support from Apple engineers, and interface design guidance, though it remains unclear if developers must pay a fee for this early access.
