Apple is now accepting pre-orders for the $3,500 Vision Pro headset in the United States. The ordering process requires a face scan through the Apple Store app to ensure customers receive the correct accessory sizes.
Apple accepts pre-orders for the Vision Pro, its first spatial computing device, exclusively through the U.S. online store. Customers use the Apple Store app on a Face ID-equipped iPhone or iPad to complete their purchase, as the system requires a face scan to determine the correct Light Seal and head band sizes. Eyeglass wearers need a valid prescription from a U.S. eye-care professional to order compatible ZEISS optical inserts, though they submit this after the initial order.
The headset features an aluminum alloy frame, a laminated glass front, and dual 4K micro-OLED displays that combine for 23 million pixels. More than a dozen cameras track eye movements and register hand gestures for control, while a Digital Crown adjusts the level of immersion between augmented reality and fully virtual environments. An M2 chip powers the main operating system alongside a dedicated R1 chip that processes real-time input from the various sensors and cameras.
Users receive two band options, including the stretchy Solo Knit Band and the Dual Loop Band that provides extra support for weight distribution. The device runs visionOS and includes a dedicated App Store, with the added ability to connect to a Mac to function as an external display. An included external battery pack provides up to two and a half hours of use, though users plug the headset in for continuous all-day operation.
