Apple Prepares USB-C iPhones and New Watches for Fall Event
Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 15 lineup, featuring a major shift to USB-C and the Dynamic Island on standard models. The event also promises updated Apple Watch hardware and refreshed AirPods.
Apple hosts its "Wonderlust" event where it unveils the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. These standard models feature a major design shift with the adoption of a USB-C port, replacing the traditional Lightning connector to comply with European regulations and unify charging across Apple devices. Additionally, the standard iPhones adopt the Dynamic Island, replacing the notch to provide more screen space, though ProMotion and always-on displays remain exclusive to the Pro models.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus also receive notable hardware and aesthetic upgrades. Apple brings the frosted glass back, previously reserved for Pro models, to the standard lineup and introduces new color options like blue, coral, and light yellow. Camera improvements are significant as well, with the standard models upgrading to a 48-megapixel main sensor that promises higher-resolution photos and better low-light performance.
Beyond the iPhones, Apple uses the event to refresh its wearable and audio lineups. Rumors point to the introduction of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, bringing updated internals to the rugged smartwatch, alongside new versions of the standard Apple Watch Series 9. Furthermore, Apple updates its AirPods with USB-C charging cases, rounding out the company's widespread transition away from proprietary Lightning ports.
