These updates bring devices to iOS 14.4.1, macOS Big Sur 11.2.3, and watchOS 7.3.2, while older Mac systems receive Safari 14.0.3. Apple strongly recommends that all users install these patches immediately to protect their devices.
The updates fix a memory corruption bug in WebKit, the engine that powers the Safari browser. If a user visits a maliciously crafted web page, an attacker exploits this flaw to run arbitrary malicious code on the affected device. Both Google and Microsoft report the vulnerability to Apple.
Fortunately, experts do not believe attackers actively exploit this specific bug in the wild. This contrasts with separate WebKit flaws that Apple patches last month, which hackers actively use to break into iPhones. Despite the lack of active exploitation, users still need to apply these important updates right away to ensure their devices remain secure.
