Apple Releases iOS 12.1.4 to Patch Major FaceTime Spying Bug
Apple is rolling out iOS 12.1.4 to fix a severe FaceTime vulnerability that allows users to spy on others through audio and video without consent.
Apple releases iOS 12.1.4 today to address a major FaceTime bug that allows someone to spy on users without their knowledge or permission. The update arrives just two weeks after the release of iOS 12.1.3 and is available over-the-air in the Settings app under General and Software Update.
The vulnerability is a serious privacy threat that lets an attacker force a FaceTime connection and listen to a user's audio before the call is accepted. If the target presses the power button to dismiss the incoming call, the attacker gains access to the device's camera feed as well.
To prevent further exploitation while developing a permanent fix, Apple temporarily takes the Group FaceTime server offline. With this new update installed, the spying bug is completely resolved and Group FaceTime functionality is restored exclusively for devices running iOS 12.1.4 or later.
