Approved developers in the Apple Developer Program receive the hardware along with setup assistance, design check-ins, and troubleshooting support. The company gives priority to applicants who propose apps that take full advantage of the new visionOS capabilities.
The terms and conditions for the developer kit are notably strict. Apple forbids family, friends, roommates, and household employees from even handling the device, and completely bars developers from discussing the headset in person or on social media. Furthermore, Apple reserves the right to see a list of all staff authorized to work on the kit and requires developers to return the hardware upon request.
To support the broader developer community, Apple also announces Vision Pro developer labs in cities including Cupertino, London, Shanghai, and Tokyo. The company releases a compatibility checklist to help developers prepare their existing apps for visionOS. When the $3,499 headset launches, it features a brand-new app store with native software from major partners like Adobe, Microsoft, Netflix, and Zoom.
