Apple Unveils Apple Intelligence and Major Software Overhauls at WWDC 2024

Apple reveals its new "Apple Intelligence" AI system alongside significant updates to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The new features include enhanced Siri capabilities, custom emoji generation, and on-device AI processing.

Apple introduces "Apple Intelligence," a new generative AI system that brings significant upgrades to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. This system includes practical tools like writing assistants for proofreading and summarizing emails, plus a feature called Genmoji that lets users create custom emojis by typing simple descriptions.

Siri receives a major upgrade through large language models, allowing the virtual assistant to perform complex tasks like deleting emails, editing photos, summarizing web articles, and extracting personal information from images to fill out online forms. Apple emphasizes "personal context," enabling users to search for specific photos using natural language.

Beyond AI, Apple announces several highly anticipated software changes arriving this fall, such as RCS support in Messages, a standalone Passwords app, and a revamped Calculator app for iPad and iPhone. To address privacy concerns, Apple designs Apple Intelligence to process most actions directly on-device rather than relying on cloud servers.
