Apple Unveils iOS 18 and visionOS 2 at Landmark WWDC 2024
Apple takes a major leap forward at WWDC 2024 by introducing highly customizable iPhone software and advanced spatial features for the Vision Pro headset.
Apple hosts its highly anticipated Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2024, unveiling a massive wave of software updates across its entire device ecosystem. This year's event stands out as one of the most critical in recent memory for the company, featuring major overhauls to iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS that promise to change how users interact with their devices.
For the Vision Pro headset, Apple introduces visionOS 2, which brings a remarkable upgrade to the Photos app by using machine learning to convert standard 2D images into immersive spatial photos. The update also enhances SharePlay so FaceTime users can view and interact with spatial media at life-size scale, while introducing new intuitive gestures to quickly access the Home view and Control Center.
The iPhone receives a significant refresh with iOS 18, finally allowing users to place app icons anywhere on the Home Screen and apply custom color tints to match their personal style. The Control Center undergoes a complete redesign with grouped controls and a new gallery for easy customization, while new privacy features allow users to lock individual apps securely using Face ID.
