Apple Unveils iPhone 11, New Watches, and Subscription Services

Apple reveals a suite of new hardware alongside launch dates for its highly anticipated gaming and television streaming services. The announcements include a larger entry-level iPad and an Apple Watch featuring an always-on display.

Apple holds its annual September event to unveil the iPhone 11, but the company also uses the stage to announce several other major products and services. Apple Arcade, an all-you-can-play gaming subscription, launches on September 19th for $4.99 per month with a one-month free trial. Apple TV+, the company's original video streaming service, follows on November 1st at the same family price point, and all new Apple devices come with a free year of the service.

The standard iPad receives a screen size upgrade from 9.7 inches to 10.2 inches while retaining the familiar home button and Touch ID. This seventh-generation tablet features a Retina display, a Smart Connector for full-size keyboards, and first-gen Apple Pencil support. Pricing starts at $329, with pre-orders opening today ahead of a September 30th ship date.

The Apple Watch Series 5 introduces a highly requested always-on display that dims and slows its refresh rate when the user lowers their wrist. New hardware features include a built-in compass and an international emergency calling function that works in 150 countries. The new smartwatch starts at $399 for standard models and goes up to $499 for cellular versions, with availability beginning September 20th in various finishes including aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
