Apple Unveils M2 Chip and Redesigned MacBook Air at WWDC 2022
Apple kicks off WWDC 2022 by introducing the faster M2 processor and a completely redesigned, notch-equipped MacBook Air alongside major software updates.
Apple hosts its annual Worldwide Developer Conference and reveals a massive lineup of new technology during the keynote address. The event features highly anticipated software updates like iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, but the biggest surprises come from significant hardware announcements that showcase Apple's continued push into custom silicon.
The tech giant officially introduces the M2 chip, which serves as the successor to the industry-shifting M1 processor. This new system-on-a-chip delivers an 18 percent faster CPU and a 10-core GPU that is up to 35 percent faster than the previous generation, while also expanding unified memory support to 24 GB.
Apple also reveals a completely redesigned MacBook Air that ditches the iconic 14-year wedge shape for a flat, modern aesthetic. The new laptop weighs just 1.2 kg and prominently features a display notch, marking the first time this screen cutout technology appears in the company's portable computer lineup.
